Two days ago, Arne Naess passed away at an age of almost 97 years. He was probably the most well-known and influential philosopher of Norway and contributed to the strong position of philosophy in the Norwegian education system. He is most known as one of the world’s most important philosophers of environmental ethics and laid the foundation for deep ecology and ecosophy, which among other things are a basis for modern science of nature conservation.

On the picture he is seen with my mother in May 1948 when she and her friends visited Paris, where he probably was a guest professor at that time.
